A unique way to display your plants, rooted to a lava rock! Each Platycerium bifurcatum is rooted to a unique lava rock. The porous Lava rock absorbs the water and which is then absorbed by the plants roots. This is called capillary action. Make sure that the water is always topped up to around three quarters full for this plant to thrive! If the roots grow to long into the water - make sure to give them a little trim back. The Platycerium bifurcatum is an unusual and interesting plant that grows naturally on tree trunks in Australia - commonly known as the staghorn fern due to the horn-shaped appearance of the fronds.

Quick Care Guide

Care Difficulty: Easy care needs.

Light: Unlike other ferns the Staghorn Fern prefers bright but indirect sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause the leaves to burn.Watering: Keep water topped up three quarters full and try to use rain water to prevent the build up of limescale.

Humidity: Prefers a humid environment. Places such as the bathrooms or kitchens will have higher humidity. In hot, dry weather make sure to mist around once a week.

Fertilising: During the growing season (spring and summer), feed with a balanced liquid fertiliser, it is always advised to follow the instructions on your fertiliser. Reduce feeding in the dormant winter months.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and most pets.

Repotting: No need to repot, Gentle trim roots if they reach the water.
