Overview

This plant is commonly known as a ‘Chinese Money plant’ and is native to southern China. This relatively fast grower has round smooth leaves branching from one main stem, giving the appearance of stacked coins. Chinese Money Plants are very easy to care for, and mature plants can produce delicate white flowers. They prefer bright, indirect light, and watering roughly once a week when the top inch of the soil feels dry.

This plant is also very easy to propagate! Use a clean knife to remove the plantlets from just below the soil, place these in fresh water and watch the roots grow! These should be ready in about a month and can be potted up and shared with friends – hence why it is also known as the pass-it-on plant! It is believed to be good luck to receive them as a gift.

Quick Care Guide

Care difficulty: Very easy!

Light requirements: Bright, indirect light. Rotate the plant every week or so, to prevent it from leaning towards the light. Avoid direct sun, as this can scorch the leaves.

Watering: Water roughly once a week in summer, allowing the top of the soil to dry out a little between waterings. Decrease watering in winter to once every two weeks.

Hardiness: Chinese Money plants will thrive in average household temperatures, but make sure to keep them away from cold drafts or hot dry air from heaters.

Size: Pot diameter 12cm.

Humidity: These plants enjoy humidity.

Toxicity: Non-toxic to pets.

Feeding: Liquid feed occasionally during the spring and summer to support growth and flowering.
