A stunning hybrid Philodendron created in the 1980s by Cora McColley. The name refers to leaves that emerge yellow and turn into a bright coppery orange colour that eventually turns to green. The Philodendron erubescens is native to areas of South America and the ‘Prince of Orange’ was hybridised from many other Philodendron varieties.

RATING: Easy to care for. If cared for correctly the Prince of Orange can grow to a large size, which won't need support due to its central rosette forming growth.

LOVES: Philodendron 'Prince of Orange' enjoys being placed in a semi-shady position away from direct sunlight but not too dark. They like to be watered roughly once a week (but allow the soil to dry out a little in between).

HATES: Dust is not a friend of the Prince of Orange, ensure you keep their leaves clean with a damp microfibre cloth. Cold, drastic temperature changes are bad for this plant as is the cold, ensure you keep the Philodendron erubescens at a moderate temperature.

SIZE (approx): Pot diameter 12cm.

    Overview

A stunning hybrid Philodendron created in the 1980s by Cora McColley. The name refers to leaves that emerge yellow and turn into a bright coppery orange colour that eventually turns to green. The Philodendron erubescens is native to areas of South America and the ‘Prince of Orange’ was hybridised from many other Philodendron varieties.

Unlike many Philodendrons, the Prince of Orange has leaves that grow from the centre rather than on a vine or stems. Bright indirect light is essential for the growth of new leaves which will ensure you get to experience the special orange colouring. If cared for correctly the Prince of Orange can grow to a large size.

    Quick Care Guide

    Care Difficulty: An easy-to-care-for plant.

Light requirements: Bright but indirect sunlight is best for this plant but it can tolerate lower light levels, however, this will have an effect on the vibrancy of the foliage. Keep out of direct sunlight as this can cause burnt brown spots on the leaves. Make sure to regularly turn the ‘Prince of Orange’ to ensure even growth on each side.

Watering: Water thoroughly once the top half of the soil of your ‘Prince of Orange’ has dried out. Make sure not to let this plant sit in water as they are very susceptible to root rot.

Humidity: The ‘Prince of Orange’ will be ok in average household conditions but to give it an extra boost you can increase the humidity by grouping plants together, misting or placing them in a kitchen or bathroom.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets.

Feeding: The ‘Prince of Orange’ likes to be fertilised once a month during the growing season (spring and summer) stopping in winter.

Repotting: Likes to be repotted every two years to a pot that is one or two sizes up from its current container with good drainage or when becoming rootbound (the roots are coming out from the bottom of the pot).
