RATING- Super Easy

LOVES- As with all desert cacti this plant will need a bright and sunny spot where possible, especially throughout winter. The main requirement is fresh air circulation.

HATES- Shade, the plant will grow towards the light if it is too dark. Do not mist as these plants don't need humidity. Overwatering is a big killer of cacti- water sparingly throughout spring-autumn and reduce in winter.

Pot diameter 8.5cm

Toxicity rating- Flesh and fruit not poisonous to pets, however the glochids (spines) are extremely irritating to both human and animal skin

    Quick Care Guide

Difficulty: This plant has a super easy rating

Light requirements: Bright locations with some direct sunlight being beneficial especially throughout winter

Watering: On average water Opuntia every month throughout winter and every 2-3 weeks throughout the spring/summer. Water well when all of the soil feels dry (Use a wooden stick pushed into the soil to check) allow all the soil to dry out again before re-watering

Humidity: Medium humidity levels of around 50% is best for cacti. This is typically the humidity levels of an average house so no need to introduce more moisture

Toxicity: Considered non-toxic to humans and animals however Opuntia have tiny, hair-like glochids that when brushed or eaten can cause irritation to the skin. Consider keeping this plant away from animals and children!

Feeding: From spring-Autumn use a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy growth. Avoid feeding throughout winter

Repotting: Opuntia don't enjoy being repotted often. Repot when the plant is root-bound in its pot. Typically every 2-3 years. Only repot in the growing season to avoid stress!
