Kalanchoe 'Green Spider'

The Kalanchoe 'Green Spider' has very unusual foliage, they are long almost finger like and spread out in all directions, hence the spider nickname. It can also flower with stalks producing red and pink flowers. When exposed to bright sunlight these plants can go a reddish hue. It is a succulent in the Crassulaceae family. Native to the arid regions of Southwestern Madagascar where it grows as a xerophyte- a plant that can grow with very little water in a challenging environment.

Care Difficulty: This plant has very easy care needs.

Light requirements: Likes a bright spot with some direct sunlight being beneficial but no midday sun. A sunny windowsill is the ideal place.

Watering: Like many succulents allow the soil to dry out between waterings, reducing further in winter. Do not let this plant sit in water as this will increase the chances of root rot.

Humidity: Does not need any additional humidity so will work well in average household conditions.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys a feed around mid-spring during its growing season.

Repotting: Repot once a year or when it has outgrown its current container. Use a Cactus and succulent mix and pot up one size larger in a container with good drainage.
