Euphorbia 'Cristata' (Coral Cactus)

The Euphorbia 'Cristata' is a very unusual plant. It is actually two plants grafted together! The bottom half is a green cylindrical euphorbia and atop sits the coral cactus. This  branches out like a fan and has ruffled edges, it can come in a variety of colours such as white, green and even pink! The Crested growth of this plant is actually a genetic mutation that makes the plant divide in an irregular patten resulting in its fan like appearance. A slow growing plant but if given the proper care these can grow up to 60cm wide and tall. Originally these euphorbias come from Africa and Central America. Be careful when handling as it produces a white sap that can be toxic if ingested and cause irritation to the skin.

Care Difficulty: Super easy to care for, brilliant plant for beginners as they don’t require much care.

Light requirements: Warm bright sunny spot, with some early morning or late afternoon direct sunlight being beneficial.

Watering: Water thoroughly but allow this plant to dry out completely between waterings. Drought tolerant, its best to underwater then to overwater. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Does not need any extra humidity.

Toxicity: Toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys being fed during Spring- Summer growth period. Always follow the instructions on your feed of choice. A cactus feed is best.

Repotting: Repot around once every couple of years -check to see if the roots are coming out the bottom of the pot.
