Biophytum sensitivium (Little tree plant)

Biophytum sensitivum, also known as little tree plant, is a species of plant in the genus Biophytum of the family Oxalidaceae. It is commonly found in Kerala, wet lands of Nepal, tropical India and in other Southeast Asian countries and is used for medicinal purposes in Nepal and India. Similar to Mimosa pudica, the leaflets of Biophytum sensitivum are able to move rapidly in response to mechanical stimulation such as touch.

Care Difficulty: This plant has moderately easy care needs.

Light requirements: bright indirect sunlight. Some early morning or evening sun is beneficial, to much will damage the leaves.

Watering: Water thoroughly after allowing the top third of soil to dry out, keeping the soil evenly moist.

Humidity: Loves humidity. Grouping humidity-loving plants together can help, as can placing pots of a wet pebble tray. You can mist the area around the foliage although this will only increase humidity temporarily. Be cautious to not mist excessively as this can lead to fungal issues. Humidifiers are also beneficial to increase humidity. Thrives in a terrarium.

Toxicity: Toxic to pets & humans.

Feeding: Can be fed in the growing season during spring and summer every 4 weeks, but refrain from feeding in winter.

Repotting: Can be repotted when it has outgrown its current pot.
