Aechmea is a genus of flowering plants in the family Bromeliaceae. The bromeliad family are epiphytic plants that live directly off of other trees and plants in the tropical rainforests of Brazil. The plant is a rosette shape with large silvery-grey striped leaves with a central well in the centre (replace this water every few weeks with rainwater or distilled water) A large stunning flower is produced which can last months to a year-once the flower has died you must cut it off, the plant will also die but new bromeliad pups will begin to grow around the base of the original plant.

    Quick Care Guide

    Care Difficulty: Moderate care needs

Light requirements: Warm and bright spot out of direct sunlight.

Watering: Keep the vase (centre of the plant) topped up with water at all times. Water regularly to keep the soil lightly moist, but not soggy.

Humidity: Will tolerate normal household conditions but does enjoy good air circulation.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Feeding isn't important but if you wish todo so you can feed it once in spring and once in summer. Make sure this is in the soil and not the vase!

Repotting: Doesn't have an extensive root system, but if you are growing pups/offsets you can upsize the pot slightly every 1 to 2 years.
