Epiphyllum chrysocardium (Fern leaf cactus)

This little succulent is all over Instagram at the moment. It's easy to see why. The thick fleshy leaf has deep separations and grows very long. Very easy to care for and makes a great asymmetrical statement on a shelf! Its common name is the fern leaf cactus due to the unusual leaf shape resembling a fern.

Care Difficulty: Super easy to care for, brilliant plant for beginners as they don’t require much care.

Light requirements: Bright but indirect spot but , with some direct sunlight in the morning is ok but avoid the midday sun.

Watering: Unlike other cacti these jungle cacti prefer more water. Water thoroughly but allow this plants top half of soil to dry out between waterings. Reduce watering in winter.

Humidity: Loves humidity. Placing pots on a wet pebble tray can help. You can mist the area around the foliage although this will only increase humidity temporarily. Humidifiers are also beneficial to increase humidity. Kitchens or bathrooms are also good.

Toxicity: Non toxic to humans and pets

Feeding: Enjoys being fed during Spring- Summer growth period. Always follow the instructions on your feed of choice.

Repotting: Repot around once every 2 years -check to see if the roots are coming out the bottom of the pot.
